Practical Information

As a student at the Department of Media, Cognition and Communication, there are a number of things you will find it useful to know.

Location

The Department of Media, Cognition and Communication is located in the old part of the University of Copenhagen's South Campus (KUA):

Department of Media, Cognition and Communication
Faculty of Humanities
University of Copenhagen
Njalsgade 80
DK-2300 Copenhagen S
Denmark

How to find us (Faculty of Humanities website)

Room Numbers

Room numbers consist of three numbers, separated by dots. The first number represents either the building (new KUA), or the staircase (old KUA). The second represents the floor, and the third is the actual room number.

KUnet and university email

The University of Copenhagen computer campus net is called KUnet. Through the KUnet students have access to their university email account, can create group rooms and access Absalon. The KUnet was launched on 12 August 2010, we are sorry for the inconvenience, but it has not yet been possible to translate all of the campus net text into English.

Your University Email Account

It is very important that you check your KU email account regularly through the KUnet. The University uses this account to communicate with you, and it is important that you read the information.

Access to your Account

You access your e-mail account by logging on to KUnet using your KU username and your pin code assigned to you by the University of Copenhagen. If you have forgotten your pin code, please send an email to the International Office at int-admission@adm.ku.dk and we will re-send you your pin code to your private e-mail account as soon as possible.

Retrieve your university email to Other External Email Clients

It is not possible to forward your university email to your external email client. Instead you have to set up your private email account to retrieve emails from your KU email.

Student ID Card

On campus, you should carry your student ID card with you at all times. It will be issued to you when you enrol at the university.

Absalon

Absalon is an e-learning facility. You do not register for courses in Absalon.

Absalon lets you subscribe to the courses you are following – you can receive cancellation notices (even by text message), syllabi, notes from lectures, etc. via Absalon.

See the faculty's guide to Absalon

Computer Facilities

Computers with Internet access and other facilities are available at the IT Centre in the new part of KUA – rooms 25.1.26 and 25.1.28. Access to the area requires a valid student ID card. To access the computers you need a personal user name and a password. You obtain these by contacting the Helpdesk in room 25.1.11 (remember to bring your student ID card).
